FAQs

1. Does the Carbon Fold 2 come with two batteries, and can I charge them indoors?

The Carbon Fold 2 includes one removable seatpost battery. A compatible external extender battery is optional and sold separately, unless your selected bundle explicitly includes it. Both batteries are removable for convenient indoor charging. Follow the owner's manual for removal and installation, and use the approved charger for each battery.

2. Is the Carbon Fold 2 suitable for longer commutes?

Yes, depending on your route and battery setup. The included seatpost battery provides up to 39 miles of pedal-assist range, while the optional extender battery increases the published total range to up to 84 miles. Range was tested with a 180 lb rider in ECO mode on flat roads, using pedal assist only and no throttle. Actual range varies with terrain, temperature, total load, assist level, and riding style. The extender battery is sold separately.

3. Is the Carbon Fold 2 easy to carry upstairs or take on public transport?

Its carbon fiber frame and fork and folding design make the Carbon Fold 2 a practical option for compact storage and journeys that involve carrying your bike. Folded dimensions are approximately 32 inches long × 19 inches wide × 27 inches high (820 × 480 × 690 mm). Check that you can comfortably lift the bike and that it fits your intended space. Public transport operators may have their own bicycle and battery restrictions.

4. How durable is the carbon frame of the Carbon Fold 2?

The Carbon Fold 2 uses Toray T700/T800 carbon fibers and EPS molding technology to create a lightweight, strong frame. The molding process helps produce a smooth interior and reduce stress concentrations. Designed for everyday commuting and city riding, the frame should be used within the published 220 lb total payload limit and cared for according to the owner's manual.

5. Why does the Carbon Fold 2 use a hub motor instead of a mid-drive motor?

A rear hub motor suits the Carbon Fold 2's focus on compact, everyday city riding. Its torque sensor adjusts assistance to your pedaling effort, while four assist levels let you choose the support you need. The motor is rated at 250W, with up to 470W peak power, providing pedal assistance up to 20 mph.

6. What components are used in the Carbon Fold 2?

The Carbon Fold 2 combines a carbon fiber frame and fork with a Shimano Altus 8-speed drivetrain, TEKTRO hydraulic disc brakes, and a removable seatpost battery with LG cells. A torque sensor provides responsive pedal assistance, and the 2.0-inch color LCD shows your speed, battery level, and assist mode. A USB-C port lets you charge your phone while riding.

7. What safety features does the Carbon Fold 2 offer?

The Carbon Fold 2 features TEKTRO hydraulic disc brakes, a front headlight, and an integrated rear light for everyday visibility and braking control. Its seatpost battery is listed as UL 2271 certified. Before each ride, check the brakes, tires, and folding locks, and make sure the battery is securely installed.

8. Can the Carbon Fold 2 be ridden in the rain?

Yes. The Carbon Fold 2 has an IP65 water-resistance rating and can handle light rain and road splashes. It is not completely waterproof, so avoid deep water and pressure washing. After a wet ride, wipe the bike dry, especially around the battery, display, and charging connections, and let these areas dry fully before charging.

H
Hannah Larsen
The whole idea makes sense for my day

The carbon frame, the fold, and the battery I can pull out have all earned their place. I fold it into the hall cupboard, take the seatpost battery inside to charge, and ride it to the station when the weather is decent. None of that is a selling point anymore. It's just how the bike fits the day.

M
Mia Sullivan
Room for the plans to change

I didn't know if I'd want neighborhood trips or longer rides, so I kept the extender as an option instead of guessing. Most weeks I don't fit it. Last Sunday I did, because the weather turned nice and I didn't want the battery to decide when I headed back. That flexibility has been worth having.

I
Isla Varga
I checked the lift as well as the fold

I checked both before I committed: how small it folds, and whether I could lift it. Folded, it fits the space in the car, and I can get it in on my own if I take it in two moves. I rode it from the trailhead parking lot last Sunday. I'd still tell anyone to try the lift themselves, but for me the answer was yes.

J
James Thompson
It's all the little moves, too

When I think about the weight, I think about turning it around in the hallway and getting it past the coats, not carrying it up a mountain. The carbon frame makes those small moves manageable for me. I still use two hands, but I don't have to plan the whole maneuver. That matters more often than the times I actually lift it.

H
Henry Ferreira
Different riders, different settings

My partner and I both ride it, and we don't leave it on the same setup. I raise the bars a little and use less assist. He drops them and rides a higher level on the way back from the station. Neither of us had to pretend one position worked for both. Swapping the saddle height takes a minute, and then it's a normal bike for whoever is heading out.
